Working Together: People with Disabilities and Computer Technology

People with disabilities meet barriers of all types. However, technology is helping to lower many of these barriers. By using computing technology for tasks such as reading and writing documents, communicating with others, and searching for information on the Internet, students and employees with disabilities are capable of handling a wider range of activities independently. Still, people with disabilities face a variety of barriers to computer use. These barriers can be grouped into three functional categories: barriers to providing computer input, interpreting output, and reading supporting documentation. Hardware and software tools (known as adaptive or assistive technologies) have been developed to provide functional alternatives to these standard operations.

Do children learn more quickly than adults?

















Small children seem to learn very quickly, while adults sometimes appear to lose the ability to pick up new subject such as languages, music, games, or computer programs. In this essay, I will discuss whether children or adults make the best learners.
It is undoubtedly true that children seem to learn very quickly. In just a few years, they can learn how to play a musical instrument, speak one or even two new languages, and deal with many subjects at school. They even have time for sports and hobbies, and become experts in their favorite pastimes. However, how much of this is social pressure and how much is genetic? I am convinced that while children’s brains have a natural ability to absorb new information as part of their developmental growth, much of their achievement is because of social pressure. Schools force them to take many subjects. Parents force them to practice new sports or to learn music. Even their playmates force them to become better at computer games or to read Harry Potter novels faster. In summary, children may enjoy learning, but their environment also is a big motivating factor

Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten


The following list is intended to help prepare your child in a variety of

Believe it or not, just 15-20 minutes of playing and learning with your child can make a

Social/Emotional Development
Encourage your child to persist in tasks when encountering a problem by giving
him tasks slightly above his current ability level.  When your child cannot find a
solution on his own, encourage him to calmly ask for help.
 Play board games to practice taking turns.
Set up several play dates with friends of various ages.
 Allow your child to stay with other trusted adults for a few hours at a time prior to
kindergarten (especially if she has rarely been in the care of someone other than
mom and dad).
 Tell your child you expect her to clean up after play.  You could implement a
box for toys left out   
Language Development
Verbally give your child specific one-step and two-step directions and encourage
him to follow through.
 Read to your child for a combined total of at least 20 minutes each day.
 While reading, point out how to hold a book (right-side up with the spine on the
left) and the orientation in which we read the words and look at the pictures (left
to right).
 After reading, ask your child what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of
the story. 
 Give your child plenty of opportunities to draw (without coloring books).  Ask her
to draw the things she sees around her.
 Teach your child the uppercase and lowercase letters and, most importantly, the
sounds each letter makes through play and games.
Cognitive Development
 Have your child help you sort items according to color, size, and shape (laundry,
blocks, silverware, toys, and other household items work well).
 Teach your child to make various patterns (red, blue, red, blue).  Garage sale dot
stickers or craft pom-poms are great for this purpose.
 Practice counting aloud to 20 while driving in the car.
Count objects in your home.  Have your child point to each object as she counts.
 Go on a shape hunt.  Point out circles, triangles, squares, and rectangles to your
child while you are taking or walk or grocery shopping.
Talk about positional and directional concepts like up/down, over/under, in/out,
behind/in front of, top/bottom, beside/between, off/on, stop/go.
Talk about opposite words (big/little, empty/full, slow/fast).
Physical Development (Gross & Fine Motor)
Give your child plenty of opportunities for outdoor play: running, jumping, and
climbing.
Play catch on a regular basis.
Practice skipping.
Stack blocks together.
 Let your child use child-safe scissors to cut out a variety of shapes.

ICT is useful and helpful. Its an application of modern technology to interact and share information among people all fields and develop science through technology. As one of the ICT functions is to help people developing education, it is good for educators and the manager to develop their knowledge and transfer it to people. Moreover, through ICT, the work on the job field can be done more effectively. As a teacher or an instructor, he can develop material and the way of teaching to the students by elaborating the element of the subject in order that the material is easy received by the students. So far, ICT gives easiness to run the teaching learning process.
ICT gives advantages in organizations. In the interaction among the members in the organization internally and externally, ICT contributes most in developing communication and sharing information between organizations and between the members in the organization. Fast and accurate messages can be received in a few seconds. SIM or System Information Management, for example, gives opportunity to the organization to download the important information among the similar organizations and related organizations. In educational context, it helps the educators to develop the materials and academic subject, information of education and cooperation among the educational organizations. In short, ICT is helpful to the personal and organizational development through modern technology   I am aright .

A touchscreen is an electronic visual display that the user can control through touching the screen with a special stylus/pen and-or one or more fingers. Some touchscreens use an ordinary or specially coated gloves to work while others use a special stylus/pen only. The user can use the touchscreen to react to what is displayed and to control how it is displayed (for example by zooming the text size).
The touchscreen enables the user to interact directly with what is displayed, rather than using a mouse touchpad, or any other intermediate device
Touchscreens are common in devices such as game consoles personal computers tablet computers and smartphones. They can also be attached to computers or, as terminals, to networks. They also play a prominent role in the design of digital appliances such as , satellite navigation devices, mobile phones, and video games and some books (Electronic books)

Advantages and Disadvantages of on line Learning

There are many advantages to online and computer-based learning when compared to traditional face-to-face courses and lectures. There are a few disadvantages as well.

Advantages of online or computer-based learning

  • Class work can be scheduled around work and family
  • Reduces travel time and travel costs for off-campus students
  • Students may have the option to select learning materials that meets their level of knowledge and interest
  • Students can study anywhere they have access to a computer and Internet connection
  • Self-paced learning modules allow students to work at their own pace
  • Flexibility to join discussions in the bulletin board threaded discussion areas at any hour, or visit with classmates and instructors remotely in chat rooms
  • Instructors and students both report eLearning fosters more interaction among students and instructors than in large lecture courses
  • eLearning can accommodate different learning styles and facilitate learning through a variety of activities
  • Develops knowledge of the Internet and computers skills that will help learners throughout their lives and careers
  • Successfully completing online or computer-based courses builds self-knowledge and self-confidence and encourages students to take responsibility for their learning
  • Learners can test out of or skim over materials already mastered and concentrate efforts in mastering areas containing new information and/or skills
Disadvantages of online or computer-based learning
  • Learners with low motivation or bad study habits may fall behind
  • Without the routine structures of a traditional class, students may get lost or confused about course activities and deadlines
  • Students may feel isolated from the instructor and classmates
  • Instructor may not always be available when students are studying or need help
  • Slow Internet connections or older computers may make accessing course materials frustrating
  • Managing computer files and online learning software can sometimes seem complex for students with beginner-level computer skills
  • Hands-on or lab work is difficult to simulate in a virtual classroom
